departurelounge arts collective was formed in 2001 to explore experimental art forms, especially music, but also bringing together, writers, storytellers, dancers and other arts practitioners.

Since its inauguration, departurelounge has worked throughout the UK in live performance, for recordings and on the radio.  Performances have included solo instrumental and vocal works, electronic music for fixed media along with collaborative performances with dance, theatre, film and other composers. 

Initially the repertoire was based on output from the recent American experimental tradition but members of the group soon began writing and commissioning new work.  Performances have been programmed across the UK, both as guests of a variety of venues, and in events curated by members of the group. departurelounge has a particular interest in site-specific concerts and presentations.

Recent performances

Most recently departurelounge presented Echoes of the Walls, as part of the Roam the Rows Festival in Chester.

For this two day festival of performance, we researched and presented stories and folk music from the local area, giving a fresh twist to material which reflected the rich history of the area.  It was particularly important for us that while being accessible we did not lose sight of the objectives and mission of the group.
